We report observations of CO line emission in protoplanetary nebulae (PPNe) and young planetary nebulae (PNe), which are found to probe the bulk of the nebular material, providing very rich information on its mass, structure and dynamics. In particular, these observations have revealed that, after the AGB phase, the nebula gains very large amounts of linear momentum in its axial direction. Such momentum values are much higher than what radiation pressure can reasonably provide. The origin of this momentum excess may be related to the presence of disks orbiting around the central star(s). We present the first detection of a rotating disk in a PPN, the Red Rectangle, whose relation with the ubiquitous post-AGB jets is discussed.
