The mean collision velocity between an asteroid and the Earth is found
to be 20.8 km/sec. The standard deviation of the velocity data about
this mean is 6.2 km/sec. The analysis of recently discovered
Earth-crossing asteroids shows that the mean Earth-impact velocity
decreases as the mean asteroid diameter decreases.
