Flaring variability is a common characteristic of magnetically active stars. Despite the fact that stellar radio flares have long been recognized and studied, key unanswered questions remain. For example, a large fraction of the literature interprets stellar radio flares assuming gyrosynchrotron emission, however, recent reports suggests that coherent mechanisms may be more wide-spread than previously assumed. Here, we propose to observe five active stellar systems in an effort to (i) access the extent of coherent events, (ii) provide further details on the nature of the emission process, (iii) analyse the flare structure in both frequency and time domains, and (iv) provide input useful for future surveys of transient sources, e.g. ASKAP where transient sources is one of the accepted proposals.
