Multibaseline 50-MHz radar interferometry is used to study the dependence of echo strength on aspect angle, or the angle of arrival relative to the normal of the geomagnetic field, for the case of electrojets. It is noted that, during 'type 1' conditions, a pronounced width variation occurred with Doppler shift; this may be due to nonlinear three-wave mode coupling, which produces a reverse cascade of energy from short wavelengths to long, as well as an increase in the mean aspect angle. Such a cascade represents an effective diffusion coefficient increase for the short-wavelength waves, which may explain the limitation of the type 1 phase velocity at the ion-acoustic velocity.
