X-Ray, Galaxy Clusters

Scientific paper

Results from ASCA on the mass, abundance, and temperature profiles in poor clusters of galaxies are described. The average iron abundance, obtained by excluding the central region where excess abundance is seen for a few clusters, so far turns out to be almost constant at 0.35 solar for kT=2.5-7 keV. Energy-dependent point-spread function of the X-ray telescope, which creates apparent rise of temperature with radius, is carefully dealt in the analysis. The maximum extent of the cluster X-ray emission is constrained to be r>~1.9 Mpc for A4059, suggesting that Mgas is more than 20% of Mtotal. Efforts in search for the possible temperature drop near the cluster edge is not yet successful due to systematic uncertainties.
