A hypothesis is proposed that the combination of effects involving precession and/or nutation of the spin axis and/or migration of the magnetic axis around the spin axis is responsible for the observed residuals in PSR 1257+12. To account for the observed time-of-arrivals (TOA) variations, the actual processes should work in opposite directions and have time scale equal or longer than periodicities identified in PSR 1257+12. The two strict periodicities contributing to the observed TOA variations and the amplitude of the TOA residuals close to P/2 are natural consequences of the proposed model. Two relevant geometrical configurations are discussed to account for the observed profile of PSR 1259+25.
