We present here the results of a study based on the Harvard College Observatory Plate Collection. One part of our study focus on the unique archival search carried out so far for a GRB optical counterpart (GRB970228). We examined ~12000 plates: 3995 at the position of GRB910122 and 8004 at the position of GRB970228, over a span of 90 years (from 1889 to 1979). The total exposure time is ~0.55 and ~1.1 yr respectively. Additionally, 18 deep Schmidt plates containing the GRB910122 error box were blinked at the Royal Observatory of Edinburgh. No convincing optical transient was found for either GRB970228 or GRB910122. We also discuss the reality as an OT of a spot found outside the GRB910122 error box.
