Graphical and approximate analytical methods of the solution of the dispersion equation for parallel whistler-mode propagation in a hot anisotropic plasma are presented. These methods seem to be especially useful for the analysis of whistler-mode propagation, instabilities or damping in the magnetosheath and plasma sheet regions of the earth's magnetosphere where the cold plasma approximation is not valid and high accuracy of the solution is not required due to strong variability of plasma parameters.
