A new variant of the method of discrete ordinates (MDO) is developed, applicable to an inhomogeneous atmosphere of large optical depth. In contrast to existing modifications of the MDO, this variant can be realized in the form of a relatively simple algorithm, the same for all azimuthal components of the solution. It is shown that for homogeneous atmospheres the given method gives good agreement with the results of calculations by other methods.
