Stark Broadening
Scientific paper
While the formal development of Stark broadening theory admits the consideration of transitions involving continuum radiator wavefunctions, standard implementations of the theory use techniques and approximations inappropriate to the calculation of spectra involving these transitions. By means of model systems the authors illustrate techniques and approximations that are appropriate, and they speculate on the application of Stark broadening theory to a problem of current interest, namely continuum lowering.
