A quaternion method is developed for solving problems of orbital motion of satellites. The method employs quaternions for describing the orientation of the osculating orbit of the satellite and Hamilton's quaternion formalism. Quaternion equations of perturbed orbital motion of a satellite in normal and oscillator forms are studied. The geometric aspects of the application of quaternions in the theory of orbits are studied, equations are introduced for the perturbed orbit orientation in terms of quaternion osculating elements, and the quaternion equations of motion of a satellite in the Earth's gravitational field are studied.
