THE acceleration of elementary particles with the aid of radio frequencies has been known for a considerable time. Sloan and Lawrence1 accelerated mercury ions to an energy of 1.2 MeV. in their linear accelerator using radio frequencies of 10 Mc./s. Later Sloan, using a single resonant circuit at 6 Mc./s., accelerated electrons to 800 kV. and thereby laid the foundation of an industrial X-ray equipment.
