An improved position and energy spectrum are reported for the X-ray 'burster' MXB1730-335, which was observed for three days in March 1976 by the Astronomical Netherlands Satellite (ANS). It is noted that the X-ray bursts are characterized by a rapid rise in flux (about 0.5 sec) to a relative intensity comparable to that of the Crab Nebula, followed by an exponential decay on a time scale of about 10 sec. An upper limit is obtained for the steady source level between bursts, the improved positional error box is found to contain a globular cluster, and data on 10 bursting X-ray sources are compared. It is concluded that certain characteristic features of the bursts from MXB1730-335 are consistent with a model in which the X-ray emitting region is situated in a cloud of hot gas near a massive black hole at the center of a globular cluster.
