Two parameters characterizing the effect of electromagnetic fields of seismic origin on the night sporadic Es layer of the ionosphere are presented: the so-called `cut-off' during the sounding at frequency fbEs, and the sporadic Es layer spread index P(YEs). Anomalous time variations of these parameters in relationship to earthquake (EQ) preparation are discussed.
