An analysis is made of spacecraft measurements of variations of the
anisotropy of proton fluxes witlh energies of 1-5 MeV observed during
the first 24 hours of the August 1972 flares. Emphasis is placed on the
observation of the reflection of protons in this energy range from the
earth's shock front.
