The transmission through the ionosphere of long-wave Alfven signals emitted in the F layer at frequencies lower than the ion gyrofrequency is analyzed. It is shown that extraordinary waves do not reach the earth, being reflected at a height of 140 km. Ordinary waves propagate to lower heights and can reach the earth. The anisotropy of the attenuation of the waves is characterized by large attenuation decrements when the waves propagate across the field, with quasi-longitudinal propagation established as the propagation angle, alpha, decreases.
