The stability of the onset of thermoconvective effects of a fluid layer
through a porous medium is studied. The existence of marginal states,
Rayleigh number, overstability, and the nature of nonoscillatory modes
are examined. It is observed that the effect of the permeability has a
tendency to increase the stability in the regions.
