The general invariance principle for arbitrary plane inhomogeneous atmospheres is formulated on the basis of Ivanov's (1975) theory. All the known invariance relations follow as particular cases from the general principles. The problem of diffuse light reflection by a semiinfinite atmosphere and the Milne problem are examined in detail. The existence of a number of integrals, quadratic with respect to intensity, of the transfer equation is demonstrated. Most of these integrals are invariant relative to optical depth.
