The demagnification of the length of spectral lines obtained by image slicing of high-dispersion stellar spectograms obtained with large telescopes, by means of an anamorphic camera and a cylindrical lens is examined. The cylindrical lens developed by Bowen demagnifies the excessive length of the spectral line, forming the image of the aperture on the spectrum, however presents difficulties if a reference spectrum is required or a large aperture is used. The anamorphic camera is composed of a toroidal mirror with the pupil at its center of curvature and a lens with one toroidal and one spherical surface near the focal surface, and the distance between the astigmatic images produced by the mirror can be selected to minimize aberration. The system can be modified to avoid excessive costs and improve image quality, and is considered desirable when a reference spectrum is required or when the camera is of small focal ratio.
