A nonstationary analytical model is obtained for diurnal variations of the electron density of the equatorial F2-region. It is shown that, near hmF2 and lower, this model practically coincides with a model based on the numerical solution of the transport equations along the geomagnetic field lines in Lagrangian coordinates. An analysis is made of the role of recombination, diffusion, electrodynamic drift, wind, and broadening of the flux tubes with height in the redistribution of plasma at the heights considered.
