Two new methods of calculating the inverse of the distance between two planets, as well as powers of the inverse, are presented. The first uses Laplace coefficients, while the second employs Legendre polynomials. Computer solution of the problem via these techniques is detailed. The first method is examined more thoroughly; it provides a precise determination of the ratio of the semi-major axes.
