We investigate the effect of spacetime backreaction on the upper critical magnetic field for holographic superconductors by using the matching method. We first study the $(2+1)$-dimensional holographic superconductors and find that backreaction makes the upper critical magnetic field stronger inferring that condensation is harder to be formed because a stronger external magnetic field expels the condensate even more. We then consider the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet case with backreaction, the upper critical magnetic field is also enhanced irrespective of the value of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant. The result is consistent with the previous numerical and analytical results.
