The nonlinear dynamics of Rayleigh-Taylor structures in the equatorial F-region is investigated in the framework of a theory assuming a strong vertical elongation. A method of successive approximations is proposed which is valid for structures having longitudinal symmetry. This makes it possible to describe mushroom-shaped 'bubbles' with a shock-wave profile at the front part. The nonlinearity leads to the formation of a 'bubble' in the regime with sharpening, with simultaneous limitation of the growth of positive disturbances.
