Scientific paper

Data on decennial variations of the length of the day are approximated in the form of the sum of the trend and series of damped oscillations. In an analogous form with the same fundamental oscillation frequency, an analytic approximation is also obtained for data on variations of the Gaussian coefficients of the geomagnetic field in the 20th century. The role of the analytic description of field variations in geomagnetism theory is examined.
