Propagating gravitational plane wavepackets can exhibit a residue effect as a result of nonlinear self-interaction. The stability and consequences of this behavior are studied. The stability of the qualitative behavior is examined with respect to perturbations in both gravitational degrees of freedom, by evolving the full Einstein equations in a fully constrained manner.
