A vibrating capacity (a metallic membrane excited by a piezoelectric ceramic) has been studied to measure low charge values. After studying several devices, the use of a low-noise amplifier has allowed the authors to measure a minimum charge of 103 electron charges. This sensitivity, together with the low mass, low power, strong mechanical characteristics make the device useful for space application.
