By analyzing the observed data about the impulsive phase of four flares and the regularities of motions of the relevant filaments, it is demonstrated quantitatively that the increase of the filament currents and the rapid motion of the filament are an indication of the occurrence of flares. The moment of the beginning of the impulsive phase is consistent with that of the maximum of the filament energy. Results show that the flare energy is supplied by the filament.
