We investigate the intracluster medium (ICM) of a sample of 18 galaxy clusters with 0.1 < z < 0.8 using Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) effect and archival ROSAT x-ray observations. The ICM is modeled with an isothermal spherical beta model. Using a maximum likelihood jointfit analysis, we determine features of the ICM for each cluster, including core radius, central temperature decrement, and central x-ray surface brightness. The ICM features are used to compare two cluster gas evolution models, self-similar evolution and preheated evolution, in a LCDM cosmology. Understanding gas evolution is necessary before SZ observations can be successfully used to constrain cosmological parameters.
