Interplanetary Matter: Disturbances, Interplanetary Matter: Cosmic Rays, Interplanetary Matter: Solar Wind
Scientific paper
Two types of interplanetary disturbances, namely, magnetic clouds events (MCEs) and bidirectional events (BDEs) are taken to study the short-term changes in solar wind plasma components as well as in cosmic ray intensity. These two types of disturbances are again separated into two categories: (i) coronal holes associated events for both MCEs and BDEs, and (ii) without coronal holes associated events for both MCEs and BDEs. Analysis of this study indicates distinctly different effects on solar wind plasma velocity and cosmic ray intensity. The BDEs associated with coronal holes are found to be significantly responsible for enhanced plasma velocity. Both the disturbances in either category produce short-term decrease in cosmic ray intensity, but lesser decrease and fast recoveries are evident with the association of coronal holes.
