Johnston et al. (1974) have studied the thermal history of the planet Mars, taking into consideration the differentiation of the Martian material and the outward diffusion of radioactive elements. In the present paper, the outward diffusion of radioactive elements during melting, and the formation of a core from a Fe-FeS mixture at the eutectic temperature are taken into consideration, but the range of radioactive element content is significantly extended. The informativeness of the calculations, particularly near the Martian surface, is significantly increased by reducing 50 times the step used by Johnstone et al. in the calculations.
