A year-long record of tidal gravity is analyzed to detect increases in amplitude of the semidiurnal and diurnal waves by physical dispersion. To separate tidal waves from other waves with similar frequencies, a theoretical tidal record of the same duration and least-squares is generated, which gives good results as long as the gravimetric factor and phase lag do not change too rapidly with frequency. The effect of physical dispersion is found to be too small to be detected with present techniques due to instrumental limitations. It is suggested that the effects of dispersion be best observed through changes in day-length at semi-monthly and monthly periods.
