A new solar abundance of osmium, AOs = 1.45±0.10, in
agreement with meteorites, is derived from 9 lines of Os I observed in
the photospheric spectrum. This result is based on new lifetime
measurements for 6 levels of Os I performed by time-resolved observation
of the reemitted fluorescence after pulsed laser excitation.
