Some problems related to the design of a hydroacoustic detector for the study of EAS cores in the energy range above 10 exp 18 eV are examined. In accordance with preliminary estimates, a detector system consisting of vertical arrays located at the vertices of equilateral triangles with a side length of about 400 m is thought to be a feasible design. The expected EAS core detection rate is about 20 per yr sq km, with energies higher than 2 x 10 exp 18 eV.
