A consideration of the observed results obtained at Misasa Hot Springs, Japan, has led to the following conclusions: when a factor acts continuously on the hot spring, the frequency distribution of the observed values for each constituent is normal, but the combined effect of several factors may cause the frequency distributions to be non-normal. Then, the extent of the effect caused by a given factor might be determined by the test for non-normality of the frequency distribution of observed values with respect to that factor.
