During International Magnetospheric Study investigations of ULF magnetospheric plasma waves, the Scandinavian Twin Auroral Radar Experiment and ISEE-1 and 2 produced evidence of hydromagnetic (hm) resonances. Satellite and ground observations indicate that some of the energy of hm waves comes from Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities near the magnetopause or low latitude boundary layer. Satellite observations of Pc 1 band pulsations emphasize the importance of heavy ions in the generation and propagation of these pulsations. Ground observations give a clearer picture of the source regions of structured Pc 1's. Substorm-associated intervals of pulsation with diminishing period are well understood, whereas the transient Pi 2's and PiB's remain a problem.
