In order to examine the auroral torch structures in relation to the pulsating aurora in greater detail, two torch structures observed over Park Site near Saskatoon on the morning of February 16, 1980, are analyzed. For comparison, the analysis also includes a quieter form of pulsating auroras, observed on February 15 and 18. The features of the pulsations in the torch structures are described, and it is shown how they are similar to features of pulsations for quieter periods. The torch structure of the aurora is found to be an activity center of the pulsating auroras. The formation of the torch structures is thought to be related to the local enhancement of discrete auroral activity.
