Constraints are set on both the geometric albedo and the diameter of comet Halley's nucleus. The limiting magnitude established, at 25.2, is 0.9 mag below that obtained by Belton and Butcher (1982). Observations during the opposition 1982/1983 at Delta = 9.6, 10.6 are suggested to be critical. If the comet remains undetected, its diameter's upper limit will be reduced by a factor of 1.5. Upon detection of the comet, however, the light curve must be established before the brightness can be attributed to either the true nucleus or the onset of cometary activity.
