In the last few years substantial progress have been made in the study of H2CO masers. We have extended the sample of known maser regions from 3 to 8, and the extended sample shows that H2CO masers are associated with very young massive protostellar objects that are rich in maser emission from a variety of species. We propose to conduct a survey for H2CO masers with ATCA toward a sample of 30 sources where OH, H2O, and CH3OH masers have been previously detected. The goal of this project is two-fold: from a physics point of view we want to investigate the excitation mechanism of H2CO masers based on a larger sample; and from an astrophysical point of view, we intend to identify particularly interesting regions of massive star formation given that the known H2CO masers appear to pinpoint the location massive protostellar objects still in the process of accretion.
