An array of angle integrating air Cerenkov counters are proposed to be integrated into the HEGRA scintillation counter matrix on La Palma (Spain). The new array will be sensitive to extended air showers of energies in excess of 5 x 1013 eV and of zenith angles up to 35 degrees. Determination of the incident shower direction is performed by fast timing measurements with an angular resolution of 0.5 to 5 mrad. The Cerenkov counters will allow information on the shower energy and structure higher up in the atmosphere to be obtained.
