An analytical function proposed by the authors is analysed. This function approximates reliably the experimental data of solar limb darkening in the quasi-continuum for a wide spectral range. Detailed observational data by A. K. Pierce et al. (1977) and averaged data by E. A. Makarova et al. (1991), that were obtained by generalisation of vast observational material have been used for the evaluation of quality of this approximation. It is shown that the modern data of solar limb darkening can be described by this approximation function. The parameters of this function describe not only the limb darkening but the source function with the optical depth.
