The influence of the type of reduction formula and method of estimating plate constants on the internal and external accuracy of star coordinates is investigated. It is shown from external criteria that the application of the same formula or model for all plates can lead to considerable errors in star coordinates for some plates. The eight-constants formula was generally found to be the preferred reduction model for a specific photographic series.
