A low-cost, 1024-channel, high-resolution acousto-optical spectrometer for 22-GHz region (H2O, NH3) observations constructed at the University of Helsinki Observatory is described. It is noted that the bandwidth of the spectrometer is 11.1 MHz and the resolution 20 kHz, corresponding to 150 km/sec and 0.27 km/sec, respectively. Tests are described which show the spectrometer to be stable enough for on-off-cycle times of at least 100 sec. It is noted that the spectrometer has been used for preliminary water vapor observations with good results.
