The results of an extensive optical monitoring campaign of LMC X-2 from
both ESO and SAAO are presented. The previously suggested 6.4 h period
is not present in the data: the data instead provide evidence for an
8.15 h periodicity. The implications of such an orbital period for the
evolutionary status of LMC X-2 are discussed.
