We present the results of hydrodynamic simulations of the interaction of an interstellar wind or shock with an inhomogeneous (clumpy) medium. We investigate the problem using Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) methods. This technique (namely, its implementation in the AMRCLAW package) is especially valuable in problems where sufficiently high resolution is required at both large and small scales. We investigate the clumpy flow for various initial conditions of the wind/shock and different clump spatial distributions and parameters. Our goal in this work is to consider the effects of mass loading on the general properties of the flow and the details of mixing of clump and wind material. Preliminary results show that the AMRCLAW package adapted to the typical astrophysical conditions provides an order of magnitude decrease in the simulation run time as well as an order of magnitude increase in resolution comparable to similar fixed grid algorithms.
