A simple expression for electric-field amplitude in a spherically symmetric ionosphere is extended by means of the adiabatic approximation to the case of short-wave propagation on multihop paths in a horizontally irregular ionosphere. It is noted that this expression can be used to determine the amplitude of hop modes on extended radio paths in calculations performed with the adiabatic-invariant method.
