A statistical analysis of the ground-motion record allows the seismic vibrations to be characterized by amplitude-frequency distribution. It enables us to determine the ``statistical'' maximum amplitude Amax(s), the total duration Ts of the seismic signal, different levels of effective amplitudes Aeff and their effective durations Teff according to the probability of amplitude occurrences in the record as well as the total ``root-mean-square'' amplitude value of the signal.
