The interaction between solar granular convection and thin photospheric flux tubes is discussed, and a model that includes the effects of diffusion and proper treatment of the Lorentz forces, for a thin tube whose depth is of the order of a scale height is presented. The model includes magnetic pressure (leading to evacuation of the tube) and curvature forces. It is found that while small tubes are limited principally by pressure effects, tubes with fluxes = 10 to the 18th power mx exert an important retarding force on the convection that causes them.
