An instrumental pile neutron activation method for aluminum and silicon analysis in chondrites is described. Aluminum is first determined by irradiating the samples in a wellthermalized neutron flux through the reaction 27 A1 (n, ) 28 Al. Silicon is then determined by irradiating the samples in an in-core position where a high fast neutron flux is available. The relevant nuclear reaction is 28 Si (n, p) 28 Al. Corrections are applied for the interfering thermal activation of aluminum.
