Two-, three-, or four-confocal conic mirror sections are featured in the present family of afocal telescopes; of these, the first is the best known, but its performance is limited by field curvature. The three-mirror, Cassegrain/parabola or 'Offner' afocal telescope, can be corrected for field curvature and is suitable for high-magnification use. Attention is given to the least-known, four-mirror Cassegrain/Cassegrain configuration, which although the least known is noted to be the most effective as a unit power afocal relay.
