We show that quantum intereference between one and two photon absorption processes can be used to eject spin currents above the barriers of a semiconductor quantum well without applying a bias. The direction of ejection of the carriers and their average spin can be controlled via the phases of the optical fields. The spin current can be generated with or without an accompanying charge current.
